The Mortgage Loan Officer III will successfully market Redwood Credit Union’s (RCU) mortgage loan (ML) products including the most complex and high profile internally sourced referrals. This role provides leadership to less experienced ML staff members as well as actively seek guidance under more experienced ML staff with the intention of increasing knowledge, skill and ability. This individual will generate internally sourced repeat/referral business for RCU based on Member experience.
Essential Functions
- Provide exceptional internal and external member service at all times via all lines of communication
- including all interested parties to a home loan transaction
- Adhere to RCU standards including, for example, utilizing our Member Interaction Model/STARS
- training and Loan Officer “Setting the Expectation” Worksheet
- Effectively and efficiently market RCU ML programs and, in particular, those loans that tend to have the
- most complexity and/or are high profile referrals from within RCU including, investor properties,
- combination first/seconds, analysis of tax returns, etc
- Consistently maximize cross sell opportunities and offer those that may offer any benefit to each
- individual Member
- Consistently develop and sustain consistent referral relationships (from internally sourced pipeline) that
- will mutually benefit RCU and its Members
- Consistently exceed departmental goals in key areas of Mortgage Lending (e.g. volume, cross sell
- opportunities, average days to close, service and repeat/referral applications generated)
- Take applications using our online mortgage application system, answer phone inquiries, attend to walk-in
- business, Branch and Internet queries
- Own overall responsibility of assigned applications from origination through closing communications
- Review loan files for accuracy and interpret automated underwriting findings so that all possible loans
- can be approved at minimum inconvenience to Members while assuring a proper credit decision can be
- made
- Review preliminary title report and appraisal; identify and resolve, if possible, areas of concern to ensure
- completeness and compliance
- Consult with Members on at least a weekly basis regarding the status of their loan
- Approve and/or make recommendations for loan approval up to established limits
- Identify expired pre-approvals, cancelled, withdrawn, and declined loans, update systems and ensure
- Statement of Credit Denial Letters are being sent out by Loan Coordinator or Processor
- Develop and utilize pipeline management system with loan processor to ensure rate lock management
- and high quality member service
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of all residential mortgage loan products offered by RCU
- Advanced knowledge of secondary market investor guidelines and compliance requirements
- High level of skill, aptitude, and interest in sales
- Highly Proficient on Internet-based loan origination software
- Highly proficient knowledge of real estate principles, practices, rules, and regulations and Fannie Mae’s,
- “Desktop Underwriter”
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with a diverse group of people including
- vendors and other Credit Union employees
- Ability to act independently and confidentially, using discretion and tact
- Ability to analyze situations and recommend workable solutions
Education and Experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System Registry (NMLS) in compliance with the requirements of Federal Law, including the SAFE ACT and NCUA part 761
- Ability to maintain a valid California driver’s license
- 7 + recent years as a Mortgage Loan Officer, plus high school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist and turn
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
- Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator
- Work environment is indoors; majority of the time is spent sitting at a desk

Compensation: Base starting range: $37.00 to $49.00 per hour commensurate with experience.
Our base salary starting range is based on scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity.
