Actress Divya Bharti's tragic death at the age of 19 on April 5, 1993, after falling from the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment in Mumbai, shocked the entire nation. Divya's untimely death remains one of the most mysterious cases and unsolved mysteries even after over three decades. While some believe it was a tragic death, others suspect foul play, with theories of murder. Her death continues to haunt those who were close to the actress, including families, friends and colleagues. However, recently, actress Guddi Maruti recalled a chilling incident about fearless Divya Bharti and disclosed who witnessed the tragic incident.
Guddi Maruti, known for her comedic roles both in the film and television industry, recalled the chilling incident during a recent interview.
Undeniably, Divya Bharti was one of the most successful actresses of her time and the brightest star in Bollywood. Known for her beauty and charm, by the age of 19, she had already worked in 21 movies. She had cemented her place in the industry and became one of the most sought-after actresses. However, her career was cut short after she died after falling from the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment. Reportedly, Bharti lost her balance and fell while turning around the balcony ledge. She was breathing when the paramedics arrived. But, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after falling.
Guddi remembered Divya as a 'nice girl' but a 'bit messed up' and revealed the haunting memories of their time together. Recalling the chilling incident connected to Divya that has stayed with her over the years, Guddi revealed that one day when she was buying ice cream near Divya's apartment in Juhu, she suddenly heard her name being called from above.
When she looked up, she was startled to find Divya sitting on the parapet of her high-rise apartment. Divya was sitting casually with her legs dangling over the edge. As shared by Guddi, for Divya, height didn't matter. However, when she urged Divya to be cautious, the Deewana actress in her usual confidence and fearlessness, dismissed her worries, saying, "Nothing will happen Guddi, I'm fine."
During the interview, Guddi said, "I remember feeling so uneasy just watching her. She had no fear of the heights. She was fearless, and I couldn’t understand why.”
While talking to Siddharth Kanan, Guddi said, "She used to live life like today is the last day; bindas, she was a nice girl. At that time she was seeing Sajid Nadiadwala. This was the time we were shooting for Shola Aur Shabnam. She died on the night of April 5, and April 4 is my birthday. So, we all partying together—Govinda, Divya, Sajid, and others. She was okay at the party, but I felt she was a little sad. She had to go for an outdoor shoot, but she didn’t want to.”
Further, Guddi talked about the impact of Divya's tragic death on her family members and husband Sajid Nadiadwala. As Guddi revealed, Divya's mother died soon after her death. Even her husband Sajid was devastated and the incident deeply affected him, as he had just arrived in the city after a trip.
Guddi also recalled that it was Neeta Lulla who witnessed the tragic incident.
"Neeta Lulla was there and saw everything happen. She was present when Divya fell, and she can vouch that it was an accident. Wo apne husband Sajid ki car aayi ki nahi yeh dekhne niche jhukk gayi thi and tabhi wo accident ho gaya," said Guddi.
If the earlier media reports are anything to go by, Divya had returned from a shoot in Chennai. Fashion designer Neeta Lulla was set to meet Divya at her house to discuss her upcoming film Andolan.
